iBird Pro Guide to Birds App Reviews

I have a couple of other bird programs and I go to this first both for ID and for background information AND for their sounds and songs!

I was looking for an upgrade price from iBird Canada or the ability to merge the 2. Also, Im not sure the Caribbean section is complete, but it might be.

Having purchased and used several different bird watching apps, I was very pleased when a friend recommended iBirdPro. Easy to use and thorough. Worth every penny.

I keep my iPad in the car and after a few hours of birding I sit down and use iBird to check IDs and to make notes. I most like the local searches you can save and the combination of photos and illustrations. The maps could be a bit more detailed and the checklist option is still wanting. I use the Peterson app for that. The identification feature seems ok for breeding adults and even that seems hit or miss at times. Still its an excellent app that I use pretty much all the time and it should be part of every birders arsenal.

I use this app as a supplement to my Sibley app. For bird I.d., I like the field marks, and accurate illustrations of the Sibley. However, I really enjoy all the extra info included in this app. It contains real pictures, more sounds, and reliable ecological information. I also like that it contains birds of Hawaii. Huge bonus for my recent vacation. I tried having one guide on my phone, but it was inadequate. I use both this app and Sibley equally for their strengths. If youre a serious birder, I recommend it.

I love this app and use it everyday. It has many species and information. Love the inclusion of the sounds. Sometimes Ill see a new bird and search for it letting known attributes like size, location and color guide me. Search function is excellent for narrowing down species. The additional submitted photos really help because the illustrations dont show you the slight variations you may find in the wild. My only hope is that this app can somehow be combined with the journal.

This app works great. My favorite use is to look up bird songs for identification along the trail.

Love this app and although I have other bird apps on my devices this is my go-to bird id app. The favorites option is amazingly useful for making different lists. Super easy to use.

Ive been using this app for about a week while traveling through southern Utah visiting national parks. I worked great when I needed sounds, pictures, range maps, etc. I really like that it has multiple types of sounds. I also really like that it has photos instead of just drawings, and you can arrange the species alphabetically or taxonomically. So far, I highly recommend this app.

Frequently updated: thanks! Great fun to get the birds into a sing-along. Read *carefully* the description of a bird sound. (E.g., dont necessarily pick one of aggression) and you can get the birds to check you out from curiosity. Sometimes call by region is also important. Get close to where you are. Dialects?

This has been my go to birding app for a while now. Best birding app out there.
