iBird Pro Guide to Birds App Reviews

Fabulous app!

I use iBird Pro every single day. I love the illustrations and the other information included in the app. The photos are great, as well and a good supplement to the artists drawings. I would be lost without this app. It has helped me ID hundreds of birds I wouldnt have identified otherwise. I learn something new every time I open iBird Pro.

Use it all the time

Im a professional biologist, and I use this all the time in the field. I especially like to use it to confirm bird calls that I hear when Im in dense vegetation and have no chance of seeing the bird (although, I live in California, and a lot of the species that are found nationwide have recordings from only a state or two on the east coast! Itd be great to increase the diversity of recordings). I frequently find illustrations to be misleading in visually identifying birds, so I also appreciate that the app includes photos. Also a lot easier to use that trying to fish my field guide out of the bottom of my pack.

ibird Pro

Thanks. I use it all the time and just love it.

Awesome

Super app. Amazingly full featured.

Very useful!

I use it in the field to verify songs I hear. Photo are great for plumage variations. Easier than field guides.

Great app!

Of the five birding apps on my phone and pad, this is my favorite and I use it most often.

Good but takes up too much space

Good app, but it takes up A LOT of space.

Awesome birding app

A wealth of information at your fingertips across all your devices. Great in the field rather than lugging your field guide. Easy to browse, or to burrow down on a specific bird.

My Goto app for identification

Use this app any time I need to verify or learn more about a particular bird.

A Must-Have For All Birders..

This awesome app has been on my phone for several years now. It just keeps getting better. It is easy to use and easy to narrow down searches. I mark everything Ive ever seen in "Favorites". I have so much fun collecting birds.. GOTTA CATCH EM ALL!!

Search is awkward.

Search is hard to use. It seems awkward and hard to understand. The main concern is that Search settings dont seem to stick when you change them. For example, I will remove large bird categories from the search settings and the next time I go to use iBird, the large bird settings are turned back on again.

Absolutely the Most Awesome

This has been a really awesome resource to have - really helpful at identifying a bird you just saw, and even enticing others with some sound samples. Very cool, very fun.

The best

Love this App. If your a wild life photographer it is a must have.

Excellent

I have used a lot of apps but this one is tops. Very easy to use and the detail provided on each species is very professional. This is my favorite tool in my kit while Birding.

Firefly

I have many apps and this is my first review, that is how enthusiastic I am. While I am only a "backyard" birder, this app allows me great proficiency in bird identification. It even allows me to summon birds with the available sounds. Yes, I am now the bird whisperer! Get this app

My Go-to bird app

I have a couple of birding apps on my iPhone/iPad but this is the one I use all the time. It does everything I need, and Im sure there are features I havent even tried yet. It seems like every upgrade brings improvements. It works smoothly, has never frozen or quit on me. LOTS of information tucked away, but the layout lets you go to exactly what you want.

Very confusing interface

This app includes a great deal of information, but it is very confusing and not at all intuitive to use. When I see a bird that is new to me, I find it much easier to identify it using the simple Merlin Bird ID app. This one contains much more information than Merlin, but is undermined by its non-intuitive interface.

Two Year Old Birder

I am teaching a sweet little baby girl how to love God and His creation and creatures. We feed birds and provide bird houses all around us. This app is so awesome to use as I teach her about bird colors and bird calls. I show her the bird pix on BirdPro. Then she shows ME the bird in the tree. I also am a wood carver of birds and the photos and info are so valuable as I search for reference materials. All in my pocket on this phone. Thanks!!!

A favorite iPhone app

While a knowledgable birder can find a few minor errors here and there, as a whole this is not only a great app for its stated purpose but one of the best iOS apps in general, IMHO. Still, I cant help thinking that theres room for at least a little improvement; but even as is its worth every penny!

iCloud improvement

What I really like about the iBird developers is they dont just sit around collecting royalties but are always improving the apps. For example in this new version 9.2 they not only replaced Dropbox with iCloud but also improved the way favs, notes and photos are accessed on my iMac. This isnt documented but Fraser, their tech support person, showed me how to open up a text file that shows all my photo assignments. So for example: ---- "268" : [ "American-White-Pelican-Nonbreeding.jpg" ] ---- shows my photo assigned to the pelican. Notes are saved as files that I can open and modify: ----- American Avocet March 20, 2016 at 5:23:09 PM PDT 100 Grant Street, San Francisco, CA Lat/Lon: 37.87229139361332/-122.5344178454229 Saw this bird in an alley in China town standing in a puddle. ----- The one improvement Id like to see is a way to download just the species I care about rather than almost 1,000 thats in the database. This would save a good deal of space on my phone and speed up the install. (Never thought Id complain about too much information
